After the flowering season of the Montauk, and when winter approaches, Den Garden suggests clearing away all dead remnants — flowers, leaves and the stems they grew on. Spring is the time to cut back the stems on the Montauk once they emerge.
Cut down to a few inches above the soil level to promote new growth and a bushier plant. Since it will be several months before flowering, the new stalks have time to develop. As with other varieties of daisy, deadheading and cutting the stems down to just above the soil level is the best way to prune the flowering plants.

Once pruned they will grow back within 14—20 days. Repeat the pruning cycle for the full growing season. Perhaps it is too hot — I do know they may slow down a bit if the temperatures are extreme. On the other hand, is the daisy getting enough sun? Do you fertilize at all?
